Bushnell Phantom Golf GPS Review

The next-generation golf GPS rangefinder device is here to delight the pro golfers beyond their imagination. The best of the features that one can even think of and the ultimate purchase item for the golf lovers that will take their game to the next level.

Bushnell continued to be one of the leading companies in developing new golf tech with the introduction of the Phantom which was one of the thinnest Golf GPS devices available.

This brought Bushnell into direct competition with the market leaders.

The Bushnell Phantom Golf GPS is the thinnest and lightest golf GPS device available with a battery performance more than 50 percent better than its counterparts.

The Bushnell Phantom Golf GPS features 5 languages and comes preloaded with more than 36,000 courses from all over the world.

Available in 4 different colors black and Blue, white and blue, grey and red, or orange and black the Bushnell Phantom is a great golf GPS device for any golfer.

Bushnell also introduced their revolutionary new BITE Magnetic Mount Technology which gives you easy access to view your distances.

Let’s get to Bushnell Phantom Golf GPS features in detail:

  • Bluetooth allows for wireless course updates

  • Long battery life play up to 2 rounds before charging

  • Preloaded with 36,000 courses in 30 countries

  • Easy to use interface

  • Up to 4 hazard distances per hole

  • Auto course recognition

  • Auto hole advance

  • Integrated BITE magnetic mount sticks to any metal surface

  • Includes clip holder to attach to your bag or belt

  • Bushnell Golf App included with purchase

Feature-wise, it has nothing less than what a professional golfer will seek in his golf GPS gadget. Let’s have a look at some of its key features:

Ease of Use

The Bushnell Phantom GPS is very easy to use. The controls are easy enough to understand and figure out within minutes of using them for the first time.

It also has a nice, minimal design that isn’t too bulky or heavy so you can take it with you wherever you go.

Sturdy Design

One thing that I really like about the Bushnell Phantom is that it is very sturdy and durable. It will take a fall without any problems as long as it doesn’t hit something like a rock or another hard surface.

It can stand up to the various weather elements as well, though you should always make sure to keep it in a dry area if there’s even a slight chance of rain.

Interactive Display

This feature is a cool addition to the Bushnell Phantom GPS. The interactive display allows you to compare your current shot with previous ones and other shots that you’ve made in the past if the thing was recording them.

You can find this setting by going into “User Preferences” and then unchecking the box for “Comparing Shots”.

Auto hole advance

This feature enables you to identify the next hole on the course though you can manually adjust as well using up and down buttons.

Shot Distance Tracking

This feature is a nice add-on to the Bushnell Phantom GPS. It allows you to track how much distance your ball goes.

You can add this information in for later reference and comparison, though I’m not sure if it really matters too much since this isn’t a swing analyzer or anything of that sort.

Precise distance of the shots

You can accurately measure the short distance of every hit however you cannot save your distances and link them to the right club.

Course and Hole Details

With this feature, you can check out your distance to the front, center, and back of the green. This is a nice feature to have for those who are just beginning their golfing journey.

It is equipped with up to 4 hazards and layup information per hole and features more than 36,000 international courses with daily auto–map updates.

There  is no membership fee for downloaded maps

Tee time advantage

The golf GPS will start catching satellite connection 7 minutes prior to the programmed tee time such that your device is all set to assist before you begin the first tee-off.

Easy-to-use Battery door

The battery door on the Bushnell Phantom GPS is easy enough to open with a slight tug and has a pretty decent battery life (roughly 2 rounds) before it needs to be recharged.

It only takes about an hour for it to reach a full charge as well.

Integrated BITE Magnetic Mount

This is one of my favorite features about the Bushnell Phantom GPS.

The integrated BITE magnetic mount sticks to any metal surface and provides a secure connection.

This is very helpful when you have to attach the device to your cart so that it won’t fall off as you’re going along.

The Clip Holder

The clip holder is an added bonus for those who wish to attach the Bushnell Phantom GPS to their golf bags or belts. For those who just want to carry it in their pocket, this is a great feature.

The convenient clip holder is a great addition to the Bushnell Phantom GPS because you can simply attach it to your golf bag or belt.

You can also carry it in your pocket if you don’t want to wear a belt and just prefer to hold it in your hand while playing, but I would recommend wearing a belt so that it doesn’t fall out of your pocket.

Long Battery Life

The Bushnell Phantom GPS has an impressive battery life of roughly 2 rounds before needing to be charged again.

This should be plenty for most people out on the course because the thing only takes about an hour to charge fully.

Bushnell Golf App Included with Purchase

The Bushnell Golf App is a great way to track your score and the distance of every shot.

It also provides you with a nice overview of your stats from previous rounds, which can be helpful in determining if you’re improving on your game or need some brushing up on certain aspects of it.

This app is available for both iOS and Android devices.

Playable without Charging

One of the best features about the Bushnell Phantom GPS, in my opinion, is that you have to charge it less than an hour before using it for another round.

You can play 36 holes in a day if you want to because this thing doesn’t seem to take too much of a toll on your battery life.

Preloaded with over 30,000 Courses

With the Phantom GPS, you can preload your device with 36,000 courses in 30 different countries before you head out on the course.

This is more than enough to accommodate most people who play regularly at most golfing establishments.

Other Features

Milometer informs the distance you have traversed, the speed  at which it is covered in miles per hour, and elapsed time

Easy to use interface to fix up your own preferences for language, units of measurement, time setting, date and day format, sound, and GPS status.

It is legally allowed in all the tournaments

Since it weighs only 1.95 ounces, it is the lightest of all GPS devices currently available that you won’t feel its weight while swinging the ball, and with such an easy-to-use interface that you don’t even need a manual to understand it.

It is much better than any other heavy and big golf device and works miraculously as you only need to glance at your hand and here you go making the shots!

  2. Hi,
Press the SHOT button to setPoint (where you are standing) to “0” & After walking to your ball (point B).
